About Us

Hi, I’m Kristen Millican and my husband, Winston, and I own Millican Pecan Company. Our family has been harvesting and selling pecans from our family orchards since 1888. We have a deep love for family and pecans and share our personal family stories of life on our pecan farm along with providing you with resources for all things pecan related.

We boast a truly rich history. Our great-great-grandfather, E.E. Risien, founded the West Texas Pecan Nursery at the junction of the San Saba and Colorado Rivers. This part of the Texas Hill Country is known as the “Pecan Capital of the World.” From this location, our family developed many great pecan varieties, as well as a prosperous orchard that serves our customers well, even to this day.

The “Mother Pecan Tree”, located in the heart of this orchard, has been used to produce many great pecan varieties. Some of these include the: San Saba ImprovedTexas ProlificOnliwonSquirrel DelightNo.60, and Western Schley and these are just a few of the varieties this tree has produced!

During his era, our great-great-grandfather’s customer base included Queen Victoria of England, Lord Alfred Tennyson and the cereal company giant,
C.W. Post. Today, through combining the rich tradition our family established, and creative ingenuity, our company is breaking new ground and pursuing new markets. While our product lines are expanding, our vision for the future is rooted in our heritage from the past.

Our company goal is to deliver quality pecan products from our orchards to you! This blog helps to accomplish that goal by enriching your life with family and pecans.

I’m really enjoying your blog, Kristen!! It’s almost as good as being home….Brownwood! I’ve been in San Saba many times and hopefully will be there this spring when I travel to see my mom. Maybe I can stop by and check out your orchards. There’s nothing like a pecan orchard during bluebonnet season!!
